BLHS/SHS GYMNASTICS: Four earn top-10 all-around honors

Tahoma High scored 153.50 team points to take first-place honors. Bonney Lake followed with 152.9, North Thurston was third with 145.6 and the Spartans wound up with 140.55.

The Panthers placed four gymnasts in the top 10 in all-around competition and the Spartans had two.

Bonney Lake’s Alix Brown was second overall with scores of 8.45 in the vault, 7.8 in the bars, 8.8 on the beam and 7.9 in the floor exercise. Trailing close behind and finishing third was Kelsi Potterf, who registered scores of 8.3 in the vault, 7.2 in the bars, 8.2 on the beam and 9.0 on the floor.

The Panthers’ Kelsey Wells-Henderson was fifth with scores of 8.4 in the vault, 7.0 in the bars, 7.3 on the beam and 9.05 in the floor exercise. Teammate Sarah Skinner tied for ninth with a 7.9 in the vault, 5.3 in the bars, 7.4 on the beam and 8.2 in the floor exercise.

Sumner High’s Aja Ruswick and Lisbet Fernandez placed sixth and eighth in the all-around, respectively.

Ruswick scored an 8.4 in the vault, 6.5 in the bars, 7.2 on the beam and 9.0 in the floor exercise. Fernandez talied an 8.5 in the vault, 6.0 on the bars, 6.7 on the beam and 8.95 in the floor exercise.

Brown’s 7.8 in the bars placed her first in that event and her 8.8 on the beam was good for a first-place tie.

The meet was the regular-season finale for local gymnasts. They next compete in subdistrict action Saturday at Kentwood High, where both teams and individuals will be looking to qualify for district competition. The district meet will be Feb. 13 at Auburn Mountainview High School and is the last qualifying round before the Feb. 19 and 20 state meet at the Tacoma Dome exhibition hall.
