Key games on tap this week

There is plenty of high school sports action this week for Bonney Lake and Sumner.

Football: Bonney Lake hosts White River, 7 p.m. Oct. 1 at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner. This is a key game in the South Puget Sound League 3 A Division as both team come into the contest with one loss each – both to No. 2 Lakes. Bonney Lake head coach Chad Barrett’s teams rolled up a 54-0 shutout win over Class 4A Shelton Sept. 25. The defense scored three times in the win.

QB Cole Schuler, RB Aaron Quevedo and WR Colton Nash are among the league leaders in passing, rushing and receiving, respectively, in SPSL 3A. LB Hunter Colegrove, Dion Bertch, Danny Malloy and Tyler Babukus led the Panthers’ aggressive defense. They have allowed two TDs in the last three games.

Girls Soccer: Sumner takes their 4-1-2 mark against Enumclaw Oct. 1 in a key SPSL 3A contest. The two teams are slated to meet again Oct. 8. The Spartans, led by Kaylee Holloway. Michelle Nelson, Kelsey Hansen and goalkeeper Jordan Swarthout, have given up just three goals all season. Swathout has five shutouts this season. Up the road in Bonney Lake, the Panthers are 5-1-1 and Auburn Mountainview is 6-1-1.

Volleyball: Bonney Lake will participate in the annual Fife Tournament, featuring some of the top teams in the area.

The 6-1 Panthers are led by Allison Hills, Danielle Norton, Ashley Reisen, Chelsea Merkel, Karyln Edwards and Taylor Watkins. They face Lakes Oct 8 at home.
