In Enumclaw
Santa Claus will be patrolling the streets of Enumclaw on a fire engine next week as part of an annual program sponsored by the Enumclaw Volunteer Firefighters Association.
As usual, an emergency vehicle - with lights on and Christmas music playing - will cruise a couple of blocks ahead of Santa's truck to alert residents. Santa's fire truck will follow shortly behind and volunteer firefighters on foot will deliver candy canes to everyone who has been good this past year (but they've been known to give candy canes to those who have been naughty, as well). For safety sake, firefighters ask that everyone remain on the sidewalk - the firefighters will deliver the goodies. They'll be making their rounds between 6 and 9 p.m.
Here's the schedule Santa's crew will be keeping:
€ Tuesday: east of 410 and south of Roosevelt
€ Dec. 15: west of Semanski and North of Roosevelt
€ Dec. 16: south of Roosevelt and West 410
€ Dec. 17: east of Florence to Division and Roosevelt north.
€ Dec. 18: everything east of Division Street and north of Roosevelt
Avenue.
Dec. 19 will be dedicated to any areas missed due to poor weather or Santa's helpers being called away on emergency business.
No tax dollars are used to support the Santa Patrol program (aside from the use of fire trucks). The money for the approximately 6,000 candy canes that will be passed out was raised by the Enumclaw Firefighters Association during a September car wash.
In Buckley
Finding time in his busy holiday schedule, Santa will be joining Buckley firefighters as they cruise their city streets next week.
Members of the fire department roll out their 1946 Ford fire truck for the event, criss-crossing the city with the siren blaring. Candy canes are passed out, and any child who would like to visit with Santa is encouraged to do so. The crew will generally be out from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
At the same time, firefighters conduct a food drive. Anyone wishing to make a donation can turn over their goods when Santa patrols through their neighborhood. All collections are given to the Buckley Food Bank.
