The Plateau Baseball Club, consisting of players from Enumclaw and White River high schools, has complete its season.

Coach Brady VanHoof termed the summer campaign “an overall success” for both the team’s younger and older players.

“We were a very young team, playing in a very difficult league,” VanHoof wrote in an email. “But, we played well and missed the state tournament by one win. The league is great for our kids to get exposure. It was a learning experience for the younger guys, and preparation for the guys continuing to play.”

The PBC capped its season with a league tournament highlighted by a July 27 victory at Timberline High, following a pair of losses the two days before.

The tourney win was a wild affair that wrapped up in improbable fashion. Trailing 8-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Plateau squad scored eight runs to tie the Lumber Kings. Making the conclusion even wilder, the PBC won the game in the bottom of the eighth when Cooper McCullough stole home.

The PBC managed its eight runs on just six hits. McCullough crossed the plate twice; also scoring were Drew Seabrands, Christian Sines, Cooper Wicks, Willy Vaughn, Brian Cloud and Andrew Littman.

Wicks pitched the first five innings and Littman tossed the final three, earning the win.

The tournament opened July 18 when the PBC fell 10-6 to Kirkland’s Northwest Bandits and continued July 19 when the Plateau squad lost 9-5 to the Belfair-based Northwest Blaze. Sines had three hits against the Blaze; Nevan Leckman and McCullough had two hits against the Bandits.
