Two Buckley residents die in crash on SR 410

Shaina Ponce and Karim Zapana-Trupo were hit head-on by another driver on Sunday.

CORRECTION: The original article misreported that Shaina Ponce lost control of her vehicle, hitting Angela Westwood. It was Westwood who lost control of her car. The article has been updated.

Two Buckley residents were killed car crash on Sunday, killing them both.

According to a Washington State Patrol report, Shaina Ponce and Karim Zapana-Trupo were driving west on state Route 410 near milepost ten, just outside Bonney Lake.

Kent resident Angela Westwood, who was traveling east, lost control of her vehicle and struck Ponce and Zapana-Trupo head-on.

Neither Ponce or Zapana-Trupo were wearing a seatbelt at the time, according to the report.

Westwood was transported to the Tacoma General Hospital.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but drugs or alcohol use is suspected; Westwood has been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide and one count of reckless driving.

She has pled not guilty and bail was set at $750,000.
