Despite claim, director was asked to resign

Editor’s note: the following is in response to a story in last week’s Courier-Herald article regarding the departure of Parks and Recreation Director Larry Fetter.

Larry (Fetter) absolutely did not leave this job voluntarily. He was committed to the many projects he had created past, present as well as in the future. He loves the community of Enumclaw and accomplished many notable things while working there. Not only is he committed to his job – he is committed to his family. He would not abruptly leave a job as Mike Thomas so wrongly states. This leaves a family with a special needs child without income and health insurance in a struggling economy. If the city of Enumclaw is left in a bind it is not by Larry’s choice; it was the decision of the mayor and Mike Thomas to force a resignation on Larry during the worst possible time that could have happened. Shame on you, Mr. Thomas. He and the mayor forced this resignation and they should be honorable and own up to their actions and take responsibility for the many negative consequences of their very poor decision.

I am grateful for the outpouring of love and support that we have received. We are going to miss Enumclaw.
