Letter to the Editor: GOP is weaponizing the justice system, not Dems

Reader Larry Benson comments on how Trump’s own appointments are the ones leading investigations

So the judicial committee in he house is calling the FBI director to task for supposedly weaponizing that department against Republicans. Let’s look at the facts, which are known to everyone with a desire to see them.

Fact: Trump appointed Jeff Sessions as his first Attorney General, when there were allegations regarding Trump, Sessions did the right thing and appointed a special counsel to investigate, Robert Muller, a lifelong Republican and former head of the FBI.

Muller subsequently issued a report siting 10 instances of obstruction of justice regarding Trump, which he could have been prosecuted for had he not been president.

Trump was so mad he fired Sessions and appointed Bill Barr as Attorney General. Bill Barr released a heavily redacted copy of Muller’s report with the statement that there was nothing in the report pointing to any wrong doing by Trump, so he basically lied to the public and got away with it.

The FBI Director James Comey wouldn’t bow to Trump’s wishes on who he should investigate, so he fired Comey and appointed Wray, the current director. Wray pushed back against Trump also and I’m not sure how he has remained in office to this day but he is a Trump appointee and the judicial committee is still going after him.

Trump committed many crimes while in office, some of which include, trying to bribe the Ukrainian government to dig up dirt on Hunter Biden by holding back promised arms shipments to that country. Asking a Georgia official to “find” thousands of votes to swing the election in his favor. Trying to appoint fake electors to swing the election in his favor. He also brought over 60 lawsuits to find falsehoods in the election process, all of which were deemed to have no merit, some of those findings were by his own appointees to the bench.

He is also on record when he was visiting China to congratulate that country’s president on his lifetime appointment to president saying that maybe our country should do something like that.

So it is plain to see that the Republicans, namely Trump and his allies were the ones trying very hard to weaponize the justice system, not the Democrats. Biden even left a Trump appointed person to investigate his son Hunter with no interference from the White House.

Trump has committed more crimes after leaving office, inciting a mob to stop the certification of the election, taking and refusing to relinquish classified documents, making several efforts to stop the FBI from retrieving those documents.

Republicans don’t want a democracy, they just want power and over seventy million Americans are willing to let them have the power they desire. Oh, and by the way, Trump is still pushing the lie that the election was stolen. Just sayin’.
