A brush fire got a little too close for comfort Friday afternoon in Sky Island.

Residents were greeted with billowing smoke climbing up the ridge near the 10100 block of 177th Avenue East at about 1 p.m.

Jim Isbell, who owns a home near the fire, said he &#8220could see flames coming over the ridge from my deck. That's about the most exciting thing that's happened around here in a while.”

According to East Pierce Fire and Rescue spokesperson Dina Sutherland, the fire covered nearly three acres of brush, grass, small trees and vegetation.

Sutherland said eight units responded to the fire, coming from East Pierce Fire and Rescue, District 18 and Enumclaw.

It took firefighters about three hours to completely put out the fire after establishing a perimeter around the blaze.

&#8220It started down at the bottom of the slope,” Sutherland said. &#8220There was no structural damage and no injuries, but there was a quite a lot of smoke.”

Firefighters fought the fire with a combination of foam and water, Sutherland said, and the cause of the fire had not been determined.

After the blaze was extinguished, firefighters remained on the scene to put out flare-ups and contain hot spots.
