Christmas tree recycle programs under way

Residents of Bonney Lake and Sumner have the opportunity to recycle their Christmas trees in a “treecycling” program.

Residents of Bonney Lake and Sumner have the opportunity to recycle their Christmas trees in a “treecycling” program.

Households with yardwaste collection service may cut the tree into 4-foot sections and place them in the yardwaste bin. It is recommended by Pierce County and Murrey’s Disposal to not put the entire tree in the container in a single week, but rather put the pieces in on different pickup days.

All tinsel and any staples in the tree must be removed.

Households without yardwaste collection may drop off their trees at the Prairie Ridge Solid Waste Transfer Station located at 11710 Prairie Ridge Dr. E., south of the corner of South Prairie Road East. The site is open seven days a week (except Thursday due to the New Year’s Day holiday) from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Households may drop off one tree free of charge through the end of January. More than one tree brought at one time will be charged the standard additional yardwaste fee of $3.50 for each one-half cubic yard of waste, and the first cubic yard is free.

Information about Pierce County’s Christmas Treecycle program is available at www.piercecountywa.org/treecycle.

Residential pickup routes are delayed one day due to Christmas Day and will be delayed one day following New Year’s Day. For more information contact Murrey’s Disposal at 253-414-0345.
