Initial Pierce County Primary Results: East Pierce levy is passing by 26 percent margin

The first round of Pierce County Primary Election results are in and the results pertinent to the Bonney Lake/Sumner region are below. In primary races for government positions, the top two vote-getters of each category move on to the November election's ballot. Results are not final until certified on Aug. 21.

The East Pierce Fire & Rescue funding levy is passing with 63.34 percent support from votes counted.

Shelly Schlumpf, the former Sumner Downtown Association director and present executive director of the chamber of commerce, is second in the race for Pos. 1 state Representative of the 25th Legislative District, with 28.41 percent of the vote. Dawn Morrell is leading with 49.24 percent.

In the race for U.S. Senator, Maria Cantwell leads with 55.05 percent of the vote, followed by Michael Baumgartner with 30.4 percent.

Dave Reichert leads the race for U.S. Representative of the 8th Congressional District with 48.21 percent, followed by Karen Porterfield with 27.43 percent.

The Gubernatorial race is led by Jay Inslee at 46.95 percent, followed by Rob McKenna with 43.75 percent.

Lieutenant Governer is led by Brad Owen at 49.46 percent, then Bill Finkbeiner at 26.44 percent.

Kim Wyman leads Secretary of State with 38.28 percent, followed by Jim Kastama at 25.49 percent.

Jim McIntire leads State Treasurer with 95.3 percent. The “write-in” category trails with 4.7 percent.

James Watkins leads State Auditor with 43.82 percent. Troy Kelley follows with 31.12 percent.

Bob Ferguson leads the Attorney General race with 50.53 percent, followed by Reagan Dunn with 40.26 percent.

Randy Dorn leads for Superintendent of Public Instruction with 57.23 percent, followed by Ron Higgins at 13.91 percent.

For State Rep. of the 31st Legislative district Pos. 1, Cathy Dahlquist and Brian L. Gunn were the only listed candidates. Dahlquist leads with 62.1 percent, followed by Gunn with 37.78 percent.

For the 31st’s Pos. 2, Christopher Hurst leads with 57.82 percent, followed by Lisa Connors at 42.03 percent. They are the only two listed candidates.

Pat McCarthy leads the County Executive race with 65.02 percent, followed by Bruce Minker with 34.46 percent. They are the only two candidates.
