All suspects in the police blotter are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
SHOPLIFTING: At 2:07 p.m. May 29, a Walmart loss prevention officer called police to advise she had detained a suspect for shoplifting; a police officer contacted the employee and suspect in the store security office. The employee advised she had seen the suspect select several items throughout the store, place them in reusable bags, and place the bags in a leopard-print bag. She then exited the store without paying. The suspect told the police officer she had not taken her medication, and did not realize she had stolen. The suspect was issued a criminal citation for theft in the third degree, and released at the scene.
WALLET THEFT: At 10:27 a.m. May 30, a citizen reported the theft of his wallet out of his car while it was parked in the Fred Meyer lot the day prior. While waiting in the car during a shopping trip, the complainant went inside to tell his wife to buy an additional item, forgetting to lock the door. He returned five minutes later and found his wallet missing, with cash and cards inside. The complainant canceled his card the next morning and was advised of several charges made in the past day. Police provided him a case number and advised him to contact the department if he found further charges.
HARASSMENT: At 9:42 p.m. May 31, an officer took a report of harassment from a woman. The complainant said a man she had met online a few days prior had begun harassing her via text messages. She had met the suspect through a dating website and they agreed to a date. The date went well, but when the complainant checked her phone after work the next day, she found a series of strange and threatening text messages. They all came from different numbers – possibly the result of a phone number encrypting method called spoofing – but she believed them all to come from the man she had met because they referenced the date. The text messages suggested he was upset she had answered her phone earlier in the day, and one threatened to smash her windows and slash her tires. The complainant provided a known phone number for the man. The officer called it and upon identifying himself, the owner hung up. The officer texted that the man should call right away, and the man responded with refusals. The officer advised the complainant to locate the man‚last name, additionally report the incident to Buckley police, and report it to the dating website. The officer advised her that if enough information were gathered on the man and he continued to harass her, she could obtain an anti-harassment order.
BURGLARY: At 8:30 a.m. June 1, a complainant called police to report a burglary from his Bonney Lake rental property. The officer met with the man at the West Tapps Highway home. The man said sometime between May 23 and June 1, someone entered the house and took items from the garage. He could not find a point of forced entry. He was provided a theft inventory form for later follow-up.
MALICIOUS MISCHIEF: At 7:49 p.m. June 1, an officer responded to 233rd Avenue East in reference to damage to a car. The complainant had parked in the lot at 4 p.m. and, when she returned more than two hours later, her tires had been slashed. Several items were missing from the center console. The doors were unlocked and the windows were down. The complainant said she did not know of anyone who might be angry with her. The officer obtained photos of the vehicle for evidence and provided the complainant a case number.
DEER: At 9:53 a.m. June 2, an officer was dispatched to an injured deer in the westbound lanes of the 17700 block of state Route 410. The deer had two broken legs and was gravely injured. Traffic was stopped on both sides while the officer put the deer out of its misery. Traffic was re-opened and officers cleared the deer from the shoulder of the road.
FALSE IDENTITY: At 1:47 a.m. an officer on patrol witnessed a woman rummaging through donated items near a Goodwill trailer. As the officer approached, she ducked under the trailer and hid behind a wheel. The officer identified himself and asked the woman to step out with her hands in the air, which she did just as a second officer arrived. She stated she was on her way to use a nearby gas station bathroom. She provided two false identities before she provided her real name. Her name revealed a felony warrant out of Pierce County Superior Court and misdemeanor warrants out of the Federal Way and Bonney Lake police departments. The woman was arrested and transported to Pierce County Jail, where she was booked on her felony warrant and cited for furnishing false statements to a police officer.
WARRANT: At 12:05 a.m. June 5, an officer on routine patrol spotted a man passed out near the snack shack in Allan Yorke Park. The officer roused him to check his welfare and advise him the park closes after dark. A computer check of the man identity showed a warrant out of the Pierce County Sheriff Office for his arrest. He was arrested without incident and transferred to another officer for transport into sheriff custody.
