Mayor declares April 12 ‘Grace Colbeth Care-A-Lot Day’

Tuesday night, Mayor Neil Johnson declared April 12 “Care-A-Lot Day” following the lobbying campaign of one of Bonney Lake’s youngest citizens.

Ever since Grace Marie Colbeth—who will be 5 years old Thursday—and her sister had learned to say “Bonney Lake, Washington” they said the whole thing, father David Colbeth said. In fact, Grace took it one step further, repeating “Bonney Lake, Washington, Unites States of America” every time someone asked her where she lived.

“So the girls are coming up the hill one night and she says, ‘Can we change the name from Bonney Lake, Washington to Care-A-Lot, Washington?'” David said.

David told his daughter it would be hard, but that they could talk to the mayor and see.

Though Bonney Lake’s name hasn’t changed and won’t for the foreseeable future, Johnson met them halfway, offering to declare Grace’s birthday “Grace Colbeth Care-A-Lot Day” to celebrate all the citizen efforts to make Bonney Lake a better city and community.

After Johnson’s announcement, the enthusiastic young Colbeth exercised no hesitation running up to the mayor’s chair to mark the declaration as official, with a swift bang of the gavel.
