Sumner’s Mystery Wine Walk is this weekend and some new additions are scheduled along with some returning mainstays.
For the first time a reception is held the night before the wine walk. The reception is at the Old Cannery in Sumner from 6 p.m to 8 p.m. The reception is by invitation only and tickets must be purchased in advance, according to the Sumner Downtown Association. Contact the downtown association at 253-720-9846 for details. The reception provides an opportunity for guests to sample the wines and cheeses of the Mystery Wine Walk.
The Mystery Wine Walk is Saturday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Ascension Productions is doing the mystery performance again. Throughout the evening the cast mingles with the crowd and reveals clues. The clues, along with the group’s performance should lead to the mystery’s solution. The mystery this year is “The Sumner Dancing Sweetheart Vanishes.”
Shelly Schlumpf, executive director of the Sumner Downtown Association, said about 20 wineries from the town of Prosser are represented at the wine walk.
Prosser and Sumner are participating in a joint effort, or “pairing” to promote the towns’ hotels, shopping, restaurants. The chamber director and city administrator for Prosser is expected to attend and the city administrator are expected to attend.
A live band called the Sumner Notes begins playing at 4 p.m. and clues handed out about every half-hour.
A new event this year is the sampling of cheeses from Willapa Hills, which is a creamery producing cheese with sheep milk. Gothberg Farms is also scheduled to be at the event with some goat cheese samples.
The Old Cannery is located at 13608 Valley Ave. E. in Sumner.
