Puyallup Fair starts Friday

The Puyallup Fair kicks off Friday and runs to Sept. 27 with plenty of family fun at the Western Washington Fairground.

New this year is Al’s Brain, a 3-D Journey Through the Human Brain with “Weird Al” Yankoivic. The free exhibit focuses on how the brain works, with a 3-D movie featuring “Weird Al” in the Brainatorium, and hands-on exhibits from the Pacific Science Center’s Brain Power. Touch a real brain or try brain teasers designed for various ages.

There will also be a large host of exhibits, along with food booths, rides and games for the entire family. Free entertainment is also available throughout the 17-day event.

Special activitiy days are:

• Friday, Saturday and Sunday, gate admission and seven rides are $20.

• Military Appreciation day is Monday, Sept. 14 and 21, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and admission is free for all active, reserve and retired military and their dependents, and disabled veterans.

• Monday Madness is Monday and all Funtastic Midway and SillyVille rides are $1.50 per ride, excluding the Extreme Scream.

• Comcast Dizzy Pass Ride Braclet Days are Sept. 15-17 and Sept. 21-24 with unlimited ride offers for $25.

• Red Hat Day Tuesday is Sept. 15 and 22 for Red Hat members and chapters invited to participate.

• Goodwill Donation Station is Sept. 17-20 and all used clothing and household item can be drop off at the manned truck in the Gold Parking Lot.

Senior Tuesday is Sept. 15 and 22 with fee coffee and backed goods at 10 a.m. at the Showplace Stage.

Admission is $11 for adults, $8 youth (6-18 years) and seniors (62-plus) and children five and under are free.

Justin Boots Playoffs of the Wrangler Million Dollar Tour is Friday to Sunday (1 and 6:30 p.m.) with the finals Sunday at 1 p.m. This is the second year the fair to host one of four rodeo playoffs in the country.

The top 24 cowboys and cowgirls compete in each event at each performance, vying for the highest purse in the Pacific Northwest – more than $500,000. The Jason Aldean concert follows the Friday, 6:30 p.m. rodeo in the Grandstand.

The Puyallup Pro Rodeo PRCA is Friday to Sunday with the Justin Boots Playoffs of the Wrangler Million Dollar Tour. Times are 1 and 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with finals 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Commercial exhibits hours are open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 10 a.m.to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
