The Sumner School District was full of Christmas spirit this year, collecting clothes, food and more for the community.

Senior centers, food banks and the Sumner Family Center received gifts and holiday cheer from students, staff and other community members.

“While requests for support and assistance in our community increase, the spirit of generosity continues throughout our schools,” Ann Cook said.

The Bonney Lake food bank received more than 4,000 items from Bonney Lake High School’s Food Bowl and 15 boxes of food from Crestwood Elementary School’s student council-sponsored Holly Pihl Memorial Food Drive. The school provided holiday baskets to 18 Crestwood families. Emerald Hills Elementary students collected 12 boxes of food and donated holiday baskets to 23 of its students. Bonney Lake Elementary’s student council sponsored a canned food drive for the Bonney Lake Food Bank and Bonney Lake Senior Center, donating 4,241 items.

Food drives occurred at Victor Falls Elementary and Mountain View Middle School for the Bonney Lake Food Bank, and the school provided holiday baskets to 10 families.

Mountain View provided holiday baskets to 70 families.

Daffodil Valley Elementary students collected items for the Sumner Food Bank and provided holiday baskets to 75 Daffodil families.

Liberty Ridge Elementary’s student council sponsored a food drive for students. Staff and local businesses sponsored 46 families and provided gifts, holiday dinner and other items.

Lakeridge Middle School students stuffed 35 stockings for the Sumner Family Center; the parent organization stocked a winter clothing bank and provided spirit wear to students in need, and a staff member provided 10 holiday food baskets to families, in addition to providing two families with gifts, food, clothes and necessities for the holidays.

McAlder Elementary School second-grade students donated to Northwest Harvest and gave holiday baskets to 44 of its students. The students also donated $592 to the fallen Lakewood officers childrens’ scholarship fund.

Maple Lawn Elementary students worked with the Sumner Family Center to give Holiday baskets to 10 families.

Sumner High School students participated in the annual high school Food Bowl and donated more than 12,000 items to the Sumner Food Bank. Student clubs and organizations at Sumner High School sponsored a toy drive and hosted the annual community dinner.

Sumner Middle School hosted its annual Great Turkey Giveaway with 100 students winning a turkey to take home, and provided holiday baskets to 35 families for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Staff at the central office also hosted a food drive for local food banks, sponsored the coat drive and participated in the Fill A Stocking for Sumner Family Center.

Sumner pool staff sponsored the giving tree to help the Sumner Family Center fulfill children’s holiday wishes and the Sumner Family Center worked with others in the community to fulfill children’s Christmas wishes.
