Friends of Pierce County, a land preservation advocacy organization, will host a fundraiser tonight at Terry’s Berries in Puyallup. “Save the Farms” is being hosted to raise money for the group’s intended appeal against Pierce County Council’s decision to approve Orton Junction.

Orton Junction is a mixed-use zoning area south of state Route 410 in Sumner, planned to support commercial and multi-family residential development. It promises to bring amenities such as a YMCA and a MultiCare prevention center to the city. The project was made possible by the County Council’s decision to allow the use of Agricultural Resource Land–in exchange for conservation easement properties to the further south–which is the locus of preservationist opposition to the project.

The fundraiser, meet-and-greet, and information session will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at Terry’s Berries on 4520 River Road, Tacoma.
