Service Alert

As of 9:45 p.m., Tuesday Nov. 11

Winds gusting to 60 mph in South King and Pierce counties have picked up, causing limbs and trees to take down additional power lines. Crews have restored power to more than 70,000 Puget Sound Energy customers, but continuing high winds are outpacing restoration efforts. We are pulling in crews from outside the area to bolster our own forces.

Safety is top priority. In some cases, wind is making it too dangerous for crews to work. As conditions allow, they will continue working through the night and into the early morning. Our priority for damage assessment and restoration is transmission lines and substations that serve large numbers of customers.

PSE crews estimate that the last group of customers without power in Pierce County will be restored by noon Wednesday and by 3:00 p.m. Wednesday for South King County. Those estimates are likely to change if high winds and unsafe conditions persist.

Outages this evening have been concentrated in South King County, with hardest hit areas in Federal Way, Kent and Enumclaw. Other areas impacted include Auburn, Black Diamond, Burien, Des Moines, Maple Valley, Pacific, SeaTac, Ravensdale and Vashon Island. In Pierce County, areas impacted include Buckley, Edgewood, Lake Tapps, Pacific and Puyallup. Other outages have occurred throughout our service territory.

Due to the unusually cold temperatures, PSE encourages customers without power to be prepared for their safety and comfort. If using portable heaters, keep them away from furniture, draperies and other flammable materials. Never use a natural gas range for heating or charcoal as an indoor heating or cooking source.
