WRECKS: One woman dead, another injured in separate accidents

Saturday saw serious single-car crashes in both Sumner and Buckley, leaving a 26-year-old Sumner woman dead in the morning and a 30-year-old Sumner woman hospitalized with serious injuries later that day.

Saturday saw serious single-car crashes in both Sumner and Buckley, leaving a 26-year-old Sumner woman dead in the morning and a 30-year-old Sumner woman hospitalized with serious injuries later that day.

Jennifer Carino’s sedan collided with a traffic pole shortly before 2 a.m. on Traffic Avenue and Thompson Street in Sumner. Firefighters from East Pierce Fire and Rescue arrived at the scene at 1:44 a.m. Carino, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene, reported East Pierce Fire and Rescue.

Sumner Police are investigating the cause of the accident.

Later that day in Buckley, a sedan was traveling northbound on state Route 165 when it left the roadway at the 13300 block and crashed headlong into a tree. Firefighters arrived on-scene shortly after at 9:23 p.m.

Jennifer Imhof, the only occupant, was extricated from the car using hydraulic cutters. She was transported to the trauma center at Madigan Army Medical Center.

Washington State Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident.
