Johanna Vander Laan, 90, died Oct. 18, 2016, in Enumclaw.

She was born Jan. 19, 1926, in Sneek, Netherlands, to parents Wybren and Cornelia (Vander Zee) Wuring. On Sept. 5, 1946, she married Ralph Vander Laan in Sneek and, in 1947, they moved to the United States. She worked in her husband’s grocery store, Vander Laan’s Market, McLean’s Stationary Store and Enumclaw Variety Store. She is remembered for her knitting and crocheting and being a wonderful baker. She was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by sons Martin Vander Laan of Enumclaw and Bruce Vander Laan (Kiki) of Renton; daughters Cornelia Schouten (Clair) of Bellingham, Wash., and Tina Vander Veen (Jim) of Quincy, Wash.; brother Wybren Wuring (Tina) of Sneek; sister Brenda Has of Perth, Australia; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph on Jan. 10, 2013.

A private family graveside service took place at Enumclaw Evergreen Memorial Park.
