Robert Skogen

Robert (Bob) William Skogen died Dec. 1, 2023, at the age of 93.

Robert (Bob) William Skogen passed away on December 1, 2023 at his home in Buckley, WA at the age of 93. He was born May 9, 1930 to Otto and Bessie Skogen in Sisseton, South Dakota.

Bob was the sixth child born to Bessie and moved to Richmond, California where he graduated from Richmond High School in 1949 and went directly to work for the Standard Oil Company. Bob enlisted in the United States Army in 1950 and served during the Korean War as part of the 96th AAA Gun Battalion at Fort Richardson, Alaska. Bob was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1952 and returned to work for the Standard Oil Company of California, where he worked up until his retirement as a Wharf Master in 1980. During his time in California, he had two daughters, Dana and Robin. In 1968, Bob married Kay Borell of Buckley, WA, with whom he celebrated 55 years of marriage. In 1979, they welcomed the birth of their son, Eric. In 1980, they moved to Buckley, WA and purchased a home that is still in the family today. Bob found great joy in the outdoors in his new hometown while gardening, berry picking and fishing. Bob was never one to sit still too long, and in 1985 accepted a position working at Enumclaw Safeway where he would meet many new co-workers and regular customers who are still considered friends to this day.

Bob was a servant to many and embraced his small-town life with his family by his side. He was the self- proclaimed “Mayor” of South Sergeant Street and is fondly remembered as a good neighbor and friend who was always willing to lend a hand and a firm handshake. Bob was an active member of Community Presbyterian Church of Buckley from 1984 up until his death, where he served several terms as a Building and Grounds and Fellowship Elder. Bob was also the Head Chef for many Easter Breakfasts and Spaghetti Feeds where he affectionately crafted “Bouncin’ Bobs Secret Spaghetti Sauce”. In his later years, Bob got to become a kid again and enjoyed passing on his wisdom, humor and wit to his grandchildren who would carry on many of these same traits.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and half-siblings. He is survived by his wife Kay, son Eric (Kelsey), daughters Dana (Michael) and Robin, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at Buckley Cemetery on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 10:00AM, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00AM to be held at Community Presbyterian Church of Buckley, 152 S. Cottage Street.

The family wishes to thank all of the friends and neighbors who provided care and support for Bob, including the Franciscan Hospice Team and the Buckley Fire Department.
