EHS’ Jake Gonzales, Chase Smith, 2008 wrestling team inducted to Hall of Fame

The upcoming ceremony is scheduled for Jan. 4.

Correction: The date of the Hall of Fame induction ceremony was reported incorrectly; the event is Jan. 4, not Jan. 24.

The Enumclaw High School Athletic Hall of Fame will soon welcome three new entries, all from the world of Hornet wrestling.

The five-person HOF committee chose two standout grapplers and a state title-winning team for induction during a January ceremony.

Joining the Hall of Fame will be Jake Gonzales, a 2004 state champion; Chase Smith, a state champ in 2007; and the entire 2008 team that captured the state 3A wrestling title under the direction of coach Lee Reichert.

The upcoming HOF ceremony is planned for the evening of Thursday, Jan. 4, during a home wrestling match against Federal Way High School. The formal presentation will take place between the junior varsity and varsity matches at approximately 6:45 p.m.

There will be no admission fee specifically for the ceremony, but those attending will pay the normal admission to the EHS sporting event.

The Hall of Fame committee includes names familiar to EHS athletics and the larger Enumclaw community: Mary Holland, a Hall of Fame inductee in 2004-05; Rob Christensen, a former head coach of multiple sports at the middle school level and assistant coach at EHS; Lanie Goodlett, a former Hornet athlete and current head coach of the EHS girls’ swim program; Dave Stokke, former longtime assistant coach at EHS who served two years as athletic director; and Tim Tubbs, a former coach and athletic director at EHS and 2014-15 HOF inductee.
