The new soccer season starts Wednesday, March 18 with a nonleague match up between the Panthers and the White River Hornets. Last season, the Panthers were defending state champions and finished the season winning the South Puget Sound League 3A.

The White River High girls escaped with a close, 39-38 victory over River Ridge Friday afternoon, keeping their state tournament drive alive.
In Thursday’s opening round of the eight-team state Class 2A basketball tourney, the Hornet girls were paired against Longview’s Mark Morris High, the concensus No. 1-ranked team in the state.
Each week throughout the school year, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association recognizes 12 varsity athletes, a male and a female from each of the six classifications, who exhibited an outstanding performance during the previous week.
South Puget Sound League coaches, in both the 3A and 2A divisions, gathered recently to make their all-league selections. Voting was done at the conclusion of the regular season and the following Plateau players were honored.
The Sumner High girls entered the 3A regionals as the No. 2 seed from the 3/4 district after losing 59-50 to Wilson in the 3A district championship game Feb. 21. The regional match-up was played at Renton High School against West Seattle, with the winner advancing to the state tournament beginning today, March 5.
