SHS SWIMMING: Three swimmers and a relay team qualify for state

Spartan swim got off to a solid start in nonleague action against Bonney Lake Thursday, beating the Panthers 114-57.

Three swimmers and one relay made state-qualifying times.

Sophomore Madison Munger qualified in the 100-yard butterfly in with a time of 1 minute, 4.76 seconds and in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:42.68.

Senior Sami Hendricks qualified in the 50 and 100 freestyle with times of 25.40 and 56.61.

Junior Ashley Huynh made her state cut in the 100 breaststroke in a 1:13.61.

Alicia Ditty, Huynh, Munger and Hendricks qualified in the 200 medley relay.

District qualifiers include Kallan Gustafson and Huynh in the 200 freestyle; Ditty in the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke; Gustafson in the 100 butterfly; and the relay team of Ditty, Makenna Roberts, Elizabeth Kressler and Gustafson in the 200 freestyle.

Munger, Gustafson, Huynh and Hendricks, just missed the state cut in the 400 freestyle relay, but accomplished a district-qualifying time.

“We started the season off well and I’m excited to see Ashleigh Johnson, Sarah Grant, Kristen Easterly (and) Carrie Miller really step up against Enumclaw on Tuesday and improve on the times they have set during the meet against Bonney Lake,” SHS coach Dana Powers said.

The team opens the league season at Fife Thursday.
