Sumner boys tennis coach Chris Heacox is expecting  a competitive fall season in 2012.

“We have a big group of kids playing on (junior varsity) who are varsity quality,” Heacox said. “Competition for the last few varsity spots is great.”

Zak Landers will return as a No. 1 singles player after filling the same spot as a freshman in 2011.

Brandon Walsh may see time as a No. 2 singles player this season, Heacox said. Last year, he was on the No. 1 doubles team and advanced to the District tournament.

Seniors John Fordice and Scott Brown will both play doubles games this year, Fordice making a shift from singles play.

Junior Nathan Santo Domingo, an infrequent varsity competitor in 2011, is expected to play No. 1 doubles in 2012.

Junior Cody Jagodinski is new to the varsity lineup, and will most likely play No. 2 singles with some possible time on doubles, Heacox said.

The team’s first match is Sept. 5 at Fife High School, followed by a match at White River High School Sept. 7.
