The Enumclaw High boys wrestling team managed to fit a couple of tournaments into its schedule during the holidays and will return to action Jan. 8 with a dual meet at Kent-Meridian High School. The White River boys had one tourney during winter break and also will return to the mat Jan. 8 when they travel to Federal Way High to challenge the Eagles. New league? No problem for Hornets sports teams (so far)

Here’s how fall sports fared against new opponents.

PHOTO BY KEVIN HANSON The White River High girls were tested by Decatur High the evening of Dec. 17 but used a third-quarter advantage to eventually register a 54-44 victory during their 3A North Puget Sound League encounter. The Golden Gators led 30-29 at intermission, but the Hornets outscored the visitors 16-4 during the third period to take control. Here, Gracie Banks (12) applies defensive pressure. After participating in a holiday tournament in Lynden the team will take a break, then resume league play when they host Enumclaw High on Jan. 8.

White River and Enumclaw met for the second time this season on the volleyball court and, for the second time, it was the Buckley squad celebrating a straight-set victory. With the Oct. 24 win, White River stayed perfect in league play (14-0) while Enumclaw remained a step back (11-2) in the 3A North Puget Sound League standings.
