Buckley hearing is Monday

Buckley citizens have the opportunity to comment on the city's long-range parks plan at the city's next Planning Commission meeting.

The meeting, which begins 7 p.m. Monday, will also include a public hearing on the parks plan, which was put together by the city's parks committee. The Commission's recommendation will then be sent to the City Council to be voted on at the May 25 council meeting.

The parks plan discusses existing facilities the city has, the level of service provided for the city and amenities the city needs to provide that level of service. It also identifies what the city what will need to keep up with population projections, some projects the city needs completed and how they will be funded.

While it is going to be adopted as a parks plan and will be included in the city's comprehensive plan later this year, but City Administrator Dave Schmidt said the parks plan is just a blueprint for the city to use when deciding on parks services. It does set rates for impact fees based on capital improvement schedules, but does not specify future parks projects or sites. While the city intends to adhere to the plan as much as possible, Schmidt said, the plan itself is non-binding.
