After being stabbed multiple times in an attack Saturday, a 13-year-old girl was released from the hospital Monday and is recovering.

Meanwhile, the 15-year-old suspect is awaiting arraignment Wednesday in Remann Hall.

The 13-year-old was walking down a street within the 500 block of South Island Drive with a group of acquaintances Saturday when the alleged attacker approached and began stabbing her, according to Officer Daron Wolschleger of the Bonney Lake Police Department.

Police responded around 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

The victim suffered several stab wounds to her upper body and was transported to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma, said East Pierce Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Jay Adams. The victim was in serious, but stable condition.

The 15-year-old suspect was identified by the victim and witnesses and – after fleeing the scene on foot – was apprehended by police and booked into Remann Hall for assault in the first degree.

Wolschleger said there appears to be a motive behind the attack.

“It sounds like they were acquaintances, they knew each other and there was some sort of conflict or dispute that involved a boy,” Wolschleger said.

The victim’s injuries were not life-threatening and she will recover, Wolschleger said.
