Breakfast and auction will aid senior center

Jake and Sandi Knaus have found a way to give back to their senior community. And they’re serving it scrambled, with biscuits and gravy on the side.

The Sumner couple are sponsoring a country breakfast and auction fundraiser July 31 at the Bonney Lake Senior Center in support of its many programs and services.

From supplying the food to gathering up raffle items – some including planters and furniture handmade by Jake – the Knaus’ said the event is their way of saying thanks to their peers.

“I was raised by my grandma and she told me ‘when you can, give back,’” Sandi said. “I have kept that as my motto all my life. When I see someone in need, that’s just what I do.”

In addition to the country breakfast of biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs and fresh fruit, there’s one item the Knaus’ will serve that won’t be found anywhere on a menu. “We’re servin’ up a lot of friendship,” she said.

With word of the event catching on quickly, the couple not only expects to see a large turnout but also hope others will see the benefits of attending the senior center.

“I want to give back to my senior center – we are a family,” she said. “I am not rich in material things but I’m truly blessed with God’s love and everything in my life right now.”

Tickets for the meal are $3 for 55 and older and $5 for non-seniors. For information, call 253-863-7658. The Bonney Lake Senior Center is at 19304 Bonney Lake Blvd. E.
