GOLF: One advances to state, five move on to WCD

Bonney Lake’s Tracy Hare received an automatic berth to May’s Class 3A state championship tournament with a ninth-place finish in the South Puget Sound League 3A state-qualifying tournament Oct. 20 at the Fort Lewis Golf Course in DuPont.

The top nine girl finishers go to state and the next 14 advance to district.

Hare, a senior, shot a 95 on the first 18 and 100 on the second for a total of 195.

Teammates Megan Charron and Courtney Bartlett advanced to the West Central District tournament in May after finishing in the 17th and 21st, respectively.

Charron, a sophomore, shot a 210 and Bartlett, a senior, finished with a 219.

Two Sumner golfers, Danielle Durham and Rebecca Turcotte, finished one stroke apart in 15th and 16th place. Durham, a senior, had a 207 and Turcotte, a junior, shot a 208.

Karleigh Warner of Sumner is the No. 2 alternate. The junior finished with a 224.

On the boys’ side, Sumner sophomore advanced to state after finishing 26th in the SPSL/WCC medalist tournament at Fort Lewis. He shot a 170.

The top 11 boys advance to state, while the next 17 move on to the West Central District tournament in May.
