Sumner High’s track and field squad visited Enumclaw Thursday and Spartan girls cleaned up, beating Enumclaw 88-62 and Lakes 103-47. It was a different story for the SHS boys, who lost to Enumclaw 93-46 and Lakes 83-54.
Ashlee Sincraugh has made the transition to being an accomplished sprinter, sweeping the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes.
High jumper Jessica Vandergiesen cleared 5 feet to win the high jump; Gabby DeGoede was the winner in the 1,600 meters with a time of 5:41.90; Stefani Castile galloped to a 12:43 clocking in the 3,200 meters; and Kaylee Holloway picked up blue ribbons in the 100- and 300-meter hurdle events, turning in times of 16.62 and 48.74, respectively.
Sumner’s girls also shone in the relay events claiming firsts in both the 400- and 1,600-meter events.
The Spartans’ Michaela Trulson and Samantha Andrada shared first place in the pole vault competition by clearing 8 feet, 6 inches.
It was the usual suspects for the Spartan boys as their aces dominated in a few of those events. Seth Rodriguez turned in his usual golden sling of the spear, when he let fly with a throw of 172-3 to outdo the rest of the field by a good 30 feet.
Alex Griffith raised some eyebrows with a toss of 50 feet, 4.75 inches in the shot put and a Sumner High record throw of 171-1 in the javelin. Griffith leads the league in both events.
But the boys were not completely shut out of the track events, as they managed a trio of second places, adding nine points to the Spartans’ final team accounting.
