Bonney Lake High’s talented female runners finished 15th in team scoring at the Class 3A cross country state championship, staged Saturday at Pasco’s Sun Willows Golf Course.
The Panther harriers were led by sophomore sensations Marie Wilson and Sierra Espinal, who finished in 41st and 48th place in the field of 140. Wilson crossed the line in 19 minutes, 59.2 seconds and Espinal was right behind her at 20:04.
The remainder of the Panther girls were all instrumental in claiming 15th for BLHS and, according to coach Andrew Foster, put forth a phenomenal effort in the face of adversity, running in the field of long striders.
Hale Theriault ran the hilly and soggy course in 21:05 to finish 98th overall and nipping at her heels were Alise McCoy, 101st in 21:10; Hope Dickson, 104th, 21:20; Chloe Beal, 111th, 21:31; and Emily Campbell, 131st, 22:31.
Sumner High had solitary junior male and female representatives in the state meet. Corey Brandt finished in 116th place with a time of 17:55 and Gabby Phelps finished in 68th place at 20:45.
