Hornet girls, third, boys fifth at state powerlifting

The White River High girls took third place and the Hornet boys were fifth at the 2016 state powerlifting championships.

The May 14 meet took place and Snohomish High School.

It was a big day for White River senior Dani Barbee, who defended her state title at 165 pounds. She posted totals of 330 pounds in the squat, 175 in the bench press and 300 pounds in the dead lift.

The last back-to-back champion for the Hornet program was Lucas Doll, who took state titles in 2012 and 2013.

Also competing for White River were junior Micah Armendariz and sophomore Parker Knaus, who placed third; junior Marina Bartels, fourth; freshman Holley Walker, sophomore Tatiana Molinero and senior Maria Dimas, fifth; freshman James Hendrickson, eighth; junior Samira Dimas, 10th; and sophomore Shawn Morgan, 11th.

Unlike other sports, powerlifting team competition is not divided by enrollment; the biggest schools compete against the smallest.
