White River High’s Jared Zaugg participated in the Class 2A boys state tennis championships in Seattle.

The event was staged May 25-26 at the Nordstrom Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Washington.

Boys tennis is a fall sport, with its state tourney in the spring.

Zaugg opened his state tourney experience with a 6-0, 6-2 loss to Kyle Beuse of Sedro-Woolley, but kept his hopes alive with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Colton Tenwick of Clarkston. In a loser-out match on Day 2 of the tournament, Zaugg fell in three sets to Kyle Hebbeler of Lindbergh; the Hornet opened with a 6-4 win in the first set, but dropped the next two, also by 6-4 scores.
