Enumclaw fastpitch lost a heartbreaker on April 29 to Kentlake, 7-6, on a walkoff bunt from the Falcons.

The Hornets competed at a much higher level than they did in their first matchup where Kentlake won easily 14-1 back on April 2.

Kentlake started the bottom of the seventh with back-to-back walks before Ashlyn Trujillo dropped down a saftey squeeze to win the game.

Enumclaw took a 1-0 lead as the back and forth affair began with the road team striking first. Brynn Findley started off the game with a double and was there for just one batter because Ava Lim hit a double herself to score Findley.

Kentlake then took the lead due to a two-run home run from Hi’ilai Gomes, her 13th this season.

Enumclaw tallied another run in the top of the third after Braelynn Schliep led off the inning with a triple. Lila Schmidt grounded out to the pitcher, but thanks to good baserunning from Schliep, pushed a run across. Kentlake then buffered their lead in the home half of the third. Senior Anne Lelet reached on an error as two Falcons were wheeled home after the throw to first base missed the mark.

Enumclaw quickly battled back and scored two runs in the fourth thanks to a single and an error from Adelyn Price, which scored Blake Hanson. Price scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 4-4.

Ashlyn Elder singled home Natalie Otero in the top of the fifth to take a one run lead at 5-4. Price reached on an error that scored Elder to give Enumclaw a two run cushion with just nine outs remaining, but those nine outs would not come easily.

Riley Linnane led off the fifth with a triple and came around to score on a wild pitch, and Ellie Henry singled home Gomes to tie the game. Linnane is the main pitcher for Kentlake — of the 98 innings they have pitched as a team, Linnane has thrown 72.24% of them.

Enumclaw would not be able to break the tie once Kentlake drew level at 6-6 as the Falcons would walkoff the Hornets.

The Hornets close out the season with Federal Way, Auburn Mountainview for their league season. But then they take on Auburn Riverside in a non-league contest on May 4 before the West Central District tournament begins on May 15 at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey.
