When KIRO television went on the air in February 1958, the station's first live show featured J.P. Patches, billed as "a retired clown from the Ding-a-Ling Circus." The character took up residence in the city dump and soon became a Pacific Northwest favorite.
Though he's been off the air for years, J.P. Patches - portrayed by actor Chris Wedes - remains in demand. He will make an Enumclaw appearance Saturday as part of Kids Day 2004.
For nearly 25 years, J.P. Patches entertained kids and adults with a show that featured cartoons, zany characters and skits. The show also had thousands of guests over the years.
