With absentee ballots hitting Plateau area voters this week and a levy vote just two weeks away, Assistant Superintendent Mike Nelson took a few minutes during the Enumclaw School Board's Jan. 17 regular meeting to provide some information for the board and audience members.
Nelson talked briefly about the importance of getting information for the four-year maintenance and operation levy out early since approximately 75 percent of district voters cast absentee ballots. Nelson also stressed the M and O levy is a replacement levy. If approved it will guarantee the district money it is already receiving to continue programs.
According to Nelson, approximately 20 percent of the district's annual budget comes from the maintenance and operation levy and the money covers many learning expenses.
“Imagine in your own household not having 1/5 of your budget,” Nelson said.
In that same vein, later in the meeting, levy committee chair Kathleen Michael reminded those in the audience to vote Feb. 7 for the levy and said anyone with questions was welcome to contact her or visit the committee's Web site at www.4rkids.net.
