In Sumner High’s sole fastpitch action last week, the Spartans traveled to Franklin Pierce’s diamond Thursday and lost 7-2.

Sumner had to face one of the best pitchers in the South Puget Sound League 3A in Kelli Crawford. Franklin Pierce’s young mound ace has won in 10 of her 13 league starts, carrying FPHS to the top spot with a 10-3 league mark.

Sumner catcher Dani Babcock gleaned half of the Spartans’ four hits off Crawford, who fanned a dozen Sumner batters and issued no walks.
