The city of Bonney Lake is having more problems with the bollard system used to help enforce boat launch fees at Allan Yorke Park.
The bollards malfunctioned the evening of June 23, damaging two cars as they tried to pull boats from the lake.
According to a police report of the incident, the driver in the first incident was attempting to pull his boat from the lake when a bystander yelled for him to stop because the bollard was rising from the ground and caught the axle of the trailer. Two people were injured in the incident after being thrown forward when the bollard caught the axle.
One person was treated and released at the scene while the other, a 16-year-old was transported to a hospital for minor shoulder and neck injuries.
Soon after, a second bollard malfunction caused a similar incident on a second vehicle, also damaging the trailer’s axle.
The city will pay the damages to the vehicles and is currently investigating what went wrong with the system.
For now, the bollards have been disabled.
