The Sumner High soccer team garnered its initial victory of the 2010 campaign April 27, blanking Lakes High 2-0 at Sunset Stadium, elevating its South Puget Sound League 3A mark to 1-3-2.
Midfielder James Glavin took an assist from Jose Hernandez to score the Spartans’ first league goal of the season, nine minutes into the first half.
Sumner goalkeeper Zach Bowers deflected several Lakes shots to keep the Lancers at bay during the majority of the first half, until he was injured just prior to intermission and back-up netminder Jake Tiegs entered the game.
Tiegs managed to preserve the shutout with one save after another in the second stanza and Dan Gunstone scored an insurance goal in the 63rd minute.
Sumner moved on to Peninsula High on Friday, where it tussled to its third scoreless tie of the season.
Sumner finishes its league slate this week. Sumner already hosted White River Tuesday and will visit Bonney Lake Friday.
