The Sumner High boys basketball team experienced a complete turnaround in South Puget Sound League 3A hardwood action last week, as it was backhanded at Enumclaw 69-29 on Dec. 8, but hosted Peninsula Dec. 11 and dominated 85-57.
The Spartans utilized a distinct height advantage to build a 51-29 lead by intermission. The combination of 6-foot, 3-inch senior Zeb Glissmeyer and 6-3 sophomore Mike Murphy spearheaded the majority of the scoring surges in the conquest of Peninsula, as the tall twosome accounted for nearly half of the Spartans’ 85 points.
The Spartans put their 1-1 league mark on the line when they traveled to Clover Park Tuesday; results came too late to report here, but will be posted at www.blscmg-northwest2.go-vip.net/courierherald.
Sumner will wrap up its preholiday league play at 7 p.m. Thursday when Auburn Mountainview visits. Sumner will then host Yelm at 7 p.m. Dec. 18 and participate in the Terry Fox Hoops For Hope Tourney Dec. 21 and 22.
