GIRLS SOCCER: Spartans’ season ends with 2-0 loss to Glacier Peak

Glacier Peak ends Spartans run in 3A state championship tournament.

Glacier Peak scored two goals in the second half and eliminated the Sumner Spartans, 2-0, in the first round of th Class 3A state championship tournament Nov. 10 at Sunset Chev Stadium.

Both teams has several chance to score in the first half.

Sumner’s Kaylee Holloway missed a kick in the 8th minute of play.

Spartan goalkeeper Jordan Swarthout stop two Glacier Peak kicks in the 15th and 16th minute of play. She had another stop in the 28th minute.

Two minutes before the half, Glacier Peak drove the ball into Sumner territory and missed a kick.

In the 43rd minute, Holloway’s kick was wide left.

The Grizzlies came out in the second half more aggressive on both sides of the ball.

Glacier Peak drove the ball downfield and Swarthout came out to stop the kick, but Stephanie Cummings’ shot hit the net in the 44th minute off an assist from Louisa Pendergast.

Down 1-0, Swarthout made another stop in the 56th minute

With time running out on the Spartans’ season, Sumner moved the ball inside the box in the 63rd minute, but came up empty.

Despite a 2-0 lead, the Grizzlies missed two shots in the final eight minutes.

Sumner had a couple of chances to score late, but missed on the opportunities.

Sumner ends season at 9-6-4 overall.
