Citizens Academy starts Tuesday

The Bonney Lake Citizens Academy is getting off to an early start and registration for the program is already under way.

This year’s academy is scheduled to begin Tuesday, Feb. 22.

The annual course includes classes on criminal and civil law, firearms, patrol procedures, adult and juvenile court systems, 911 communications, crime prevention, domestic violence, narcotics, K9 demonstration, marine services, SWAT, and emergency vehicle operations.

The class meets twice a week for eight weeks and also includes a full Saturday for firearms and emergency vehicle operations practicals.

The free course is open to anyone at least 18 years of age or a high school senior who lives and/or works in the city of Bonney Lake with no felony convictions or outstanding warrants.

A valid driver’s license is required. All applicants are subject to a background check. Class notebooks and identification badges will be provided to participants.

A certificate is awarded at the completion of the program.

Classes are presently scheduled for 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
