Bonney Lake’s fastpitch squad is tied for second place in the current South Puget Sound League 3A standings with Auburn Mountainview at 11-4 in league play and has split with the Lady Lions in its tandem of 2010 encounters.
Last week began April 26 on the Panthers’ diamond with a controversial 7-6, extra-inning setback to league leading Franklin Pierce (10-3). Two days later, Bonney Lake quickly put its fourth loss of the season in its rear-view mirror, as it traveled to tangle with White River.
Behind sophomore windwiller Rendi Johnson, the Panthers disposed of the Hornet bunch in short order, pummeling them 10-0 in five frames.
Johnson relinquished only a pair of base hits while the Panthers racked up the Hornet twirler for 16 hits, many of which were stand-up doubles and triples.
Taylor Watkins, who had gone 3 for 3 from the plate with a home run against a stalwart Cardinal pitcher two days before, again went 3 for 3 against the Hornets.
Catcher Brittany Meyers also had White River’s number as she went 4 for 4 from the plate, with three doubles and four runs batted in.
The Panthers host a struggling Sumner squad Thursday in what will be the final rendezvous on the regular season slate.
