About 100 kids turn out for fishing derby at Rainier School

About 100 kids participated in the annual Buckley Kiwanis Fishing Derby at the Rainier State School pond April 26. The event is sponsored by the Buckley Kiwanis and the Buckley Firefighters Association, who provide the fish, refreshments and prizes. The White River Key Club assisted in weighing the fish and untangling the lines.

Nine kids came out winners in the Derby. Anna Lietvinenko was the grand prize winner of a new fishing rod and reel for catching the biggest fish at eight pounds, two ounces. In the 10-12 age group winners were Brian Nicaise, 3 pounds, 4 ounces; Amanda Heep, 2 pounds, 14 ounces; and Joanna Gallion, 2 pounds. Winners in the 6-9 age group were Kristin Cosand, 2 pounds, 15 ounces; Quentin Money, 2pounds, 8 ounces; and Brett Bidwell, 2 pounds. In the 5 and under group, Daniel Heep caught a 3 pound fish, and Wyatt Michaelson caught a 3 pound, 12 ounce fish.
