Legacy media is defined by the national networks like CBS, NBC, and ABC, and newspapers like the Washington Post, the New York Times, and the L.A. Times. They have all sold out to political pressure. Independent media like Brian Tyler Cohen, Glen Kirschner, Marc Elias, Rachel Maddow and others have swept in to take their place in reporting what’s going on politically.
The list of the legacy media that have bowed to political pressure is growing: CBS with 60 Minutes and their $36 million bribe, Disney (ABC) with tribute of $15 million plus cancellation of Stephen Colbert’s show and suspension of Jimmy Kimmel. NBC was threatened with investigations because our president didn’t like its news coverage (npr.org).
Legacy media has been bought up by billionaires: Jeff Bezos bought the Washington Post, Patrick Soon, the L.A. Times, and Marc Benioff, Time Magazine. Since they’re billionaires, they have multiple business interests which can be pressured by an administration intent on controlling free speech.
The goal of legacy media is to give equal time to both sides of the political media, when democracy itself is at stake. Behavior that would have seen the end of government officials is met with silence by legacy media. Think of R.F.K. Jr., Pam Bondi, Kash Patel, and Elon Musk and his gang of young D.O.G.E. techies.
If you want to really know what’s taking place across the nation, you will have to visit YouTube to learn from independents who tell the real story of violations of First Amendment free speech protections and Fifth, and Fourteenth Amendment violations of due process. Vindictive prosecutions have increased with indictments of James Comey, Letisha James, arrests of a state judge in Wisconsin, and a U.S. Representative from New Jersey who was carrying out her congressional duty to inspect an I.C.E. detention center.
Dark-skinned Latinos who speak with accents and who work in day labor have been grabbed up by masked men in unmarked uniforms emerging from unmarked, windowless vans and then shipped off to foreign nations without any protection from due process rights. Civil Service employees have been fired from their jobs and money has been withheld from the F.T.C. and the Federal Reserve, while ignoring Congressional laws protecting those jobs from politics.
Republican governors in Texas, Missouri, Indiana, and Florida have either succeeded in gerrymandering are pushing to gerrymander their Congressional voting districts to favor Republican candidates over Democrats and minorities in the 2026 midterm elections.
Yet, when the governor of California is acting to create more Democratic U.S. House seats through democratic elections using gerrymandering, Republicans hypocritically complain of him being unfair. Meanwhile, legacy media are silent or neutral about such behavior. They are fearful of loss of their F.C.C. licenses or loss of mergers due to presidential threats of governmental retribution.
While President Biden was in office, legacy media was quick to point out his mental failings. When our current president makes outrageous threats, or shows signs of mental and physical decline, little is said.
While the Supreme Court, using the shadow docket, violates checks and balances and allows immigrants to be shipped off to war-torn Sudan without due process, legacy media does not cry out in horror at the degradation of American democracy.
When a young conservative is brutally gunned down in front of thousands, no equivalents are pointed out in the legacy media in regard to Nancy Pelosi’s husband, or the Minnesota Speaker of the House and her husband’s murders, or the wounding of another Minnesota legislator and her husband.
Clear examples of bribes are occurring through gifts of a 747 jet, or $50,000 in a bag given to a future member of the Trump administration for a promise of favors, and presidential family members taking in billions of dollars through cryptocurrency. Little outrage is expressed by legacy media.
In another time and place, all these outrageous and criminal behaviors would have been shouted from every media outlet in the nation. Now silence seems to be the response.
If you really want to know what is going on, go to the YouTube videos of the likes of those listed in the first paragraph. They aren’t intimidated by threats or fears of losing licenses or lawsuits. They aren’t billionaires. They’re people who really care about saving our democracy from authoritarianism.
Legacy media has failed us. It’s time for Americans to switch to alternate sources of news. The choice is yours. Ignorance is not bliss. It’s dangerous to our health and our liberties. Get out of your habitual news silos. Find the truth in a living and vibrant alternative.
