Chamber hears tips for thriving in a tough...
    March 9, 2009 8:59 pm

At our chamber-sponsored February Business Breakfast we discussed how to make it through these tough economic times. According to Jeff Perlot, business management faculty member and small business adviser at Green River Community College, the first key is to keep moving. He compared it with a rock climber who sees a storm coming. If the climber stays frozen and tries to wait out the storm, they may never make if off the rock. You need to keep climbing. Stay disciplined. Pick a few key things you want to accomplish each day and do them. That’s the only way to get to the top.

It may be time to clarify how the nonprofit Enumclaw Area Chamber of Commerce operates. The Chamber of Commerce office consists of two entities. One, of course, is the chamber and the other is the visitor center. The chamber is totally self sufficient while the visitor center is partially funded by the city of Enumclaw. The chamber is not in any way a division of the city of Enumclaw but is committed to a full partnership with the city. One of our many goals is to promote the welfare of the business community and the city.

I haven’t quite been able to bring myself to do it yet. Everyone’s doing it. My kids do it, I have friends that are doing it, businesses are doing it, even my husband has done it. I’m sure it’s not that difficult. I know I could figure it out . . . but do I want to? There are so many options for online networking these days, maybe I haven’t done it because I just can’t decide which one to join. Maybe I’m just worried it will suck up more of my time. Time that I can never seem to find enough of anyway. Or perhaps, it’s just that I’m still holding on to the belief that nothing is as effective as a face to face.
