Two Plateau residents involved in separate fatal crashes

A Buckley resident killed a pedestrian, while an Enumclaw resident was struck by a falling tree.

Both and Enumclaw and Buckley resident were involved in two separate fatal crashes yesterday, Nov. 4.

Around 5 p.m., a Buckley driver was traveling eastbound on state Route 162 just east of South Prairie when he struck a pedestrian from Covington, who was pronounced dead on the scene when first responders arrived.

The victim has not been identified, pending notification of next of kin.

The Courier-Herald does not typically release the names of suspects until charging documents have been officially filed; it’s unknown at this time if Pierce County prosecutors will do so.

Then around 8 p.m., a female driver from Enumclaw was killed on state Route 410 near the Crystal River Ranch, east of Greenwater.

According to the Washington State Patrol, a large tree fell on the roadway and stuck the car; the tree may have fallen due to high winds in the area, as the National Weather Service issued a wind advisory earlier in the day.

The identity of the woman has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.

The roadway was blocked for more than three hours.
