EHS boys, WRHS girls take wins in basketball Battle of the Bridge

Enumclaw boys and girls are No. 1 and No. 2 in the NPSL 3A standings respectively, with the WR girls in spot No. 3.

The season’s first basketball edition of the Battle of the Bridge delivered break-even results late last week with the Plateau schools splitting a pair of games.

There was no home-court advantage as the Enumclaw High boys secured a 14-point victory at White River; 24 hours later it was the Buckley girls registering an 18-point decision in the EHS gymnasium.

Here’s a quick look at how things went. Full scoring details can be found in the Sports Roundup.

BOYS BRIDGE BATTLE

The difference in the January 8 contest was a third quarter that saw Enumclaw enjoying a 22-9 scoring advantage. Kannon Kuzaro contributed nine points during the period as Enumclaw built upon its 28-23 halftime advantage.

Kuzaro finished with 20 points to lead all scorers. Also in double figures were teammates Esias Gooodlett, who finished with 16 points, and Jason Feddema who added 11.

White River was paced by Logan Senon’s 19 points and 17 from Jorden Goethals.

This week: Tuesday games had Enumclaw hosting Kent-Meridian and White River hosting Auburn Mountainview. Tonight (Wednesday), EHS travels to Kentlake. Friday’s schedule has Enumclaw traveling to Federal Way and White River heading to Kentlake.

GIRLS BRIDGE BATTLE

Taking the court January 9 in Enumclaw’s Chuck Smith Gymnasium the Plateau pair provided fans with an entertaining evening. The contest was close for a half (WRHS leading 31-29) and EHS remaining in close contention through three periods. The White River squad used a 21-11 advantage in the final frame to secure the North Puget Sound League 3A victory.

White River’s Maggee Schmitz was electric all night, whether connecting from long range (finishing with four 3-pointers) or driving the lane. In all, it added up to a 38-point explosion.

For Enumclaw, Logan Girias led the offense for the second game in a row. She finished with 17 points against White River after scoring 27 earlier in the week against Todd Beamer.

This week: White River played Tuesday night at Auburn Mountainview, hosts Todd Beamer Thursday and hosts Kentlake Friday. Enumclaw’s girls have just one game this week, hosting Federal Way on Friday.
