SHS GOLF: Season-long winning streak broken, but the team is still on top

It was another good week for the Sumner High boys golf team, though not without its drawbacks: the Spartans broke a season-long winning streak in its three-way Thursday match against Franklin Pierce and Washington High School at Brookdale in Tacoma.

It was another good week for the Sumner High boys golf team, though not without its drawbacks: the Spartans broke a season-long winning streak in its three-way Thursday match against Franklin Pierce and Washington High School at Brookdale in Tacoma.

The Spartans lost 67-64 to Franklin Pierce, but defeated Washington High 64-38. Individually, Carson Dunham came out on top of the whole lot as the competition medalist.

Earlier in the week, the team beat Fife 52-32, with Austin Spanier coming away as medalist.

The girls golf team wasn’t so fortunate against Franklin Pierce and Washington, losing 82-30 and 38-30, respectively.

The silver lining is that the team showed drastic improvement in just two days. Their Sept. 20 match against Fife came out 49-10.

“Our girls really showed signs of growth on the golf course this week at Brookdale, even though the scores don’t reflect that yet,” coach Shane Patrick said.
