The tranquility of Kanaskat-Palmer State Park was disrupted last week by county officials who were removing a set of human remains.

The bones had been discovered by hikers in a heavily-wooded area of the popular state park, which sits along the Green River about 11 miles north of Enumclaw.

Early reports said police estimated the bones had been in their hiding place for at least a year.

The remains were delivered to the King County Medical Examiner's office.

While there was no early identification, there was speculation the remains were those of a man who went missing in December 2003. He had been staying at the park at the time of his disappearance.
